What Are Injectables?
Injectables treat a wide variety of concerns, most commonly on or around the facial area. They are simple procedures that can not only be used for cosmetic purposes, such as getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles, but can also be used to help treat migraines and excessive sweating. There are several different types of injectables on offer, each with its own purpose, so it is important to be aware of your options. Some injectables, such as Botox, has been approved for a variety of uses aside from just cosmetic, so it is important to check in with your doctor if you are planning to use injectables for reasons other than cosmetic procedures.
Different Injectables Products
There are six main injectables products offered. They include:
- Botox – Botox is one of the most popular injectables, and can be used to help relax facial muscles, as well as for medical concerns, such as migraines and bladder control issues.
- Dysport – Dysport is an injectable that works much the same way as Botox, even using the same main ingredient. However, Dysport can work faster than traditional Botox at reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
- Voluma – Voluma is a filler that is injected into the cheek to help make the face look fuller.
- Juvederm – Juvederm is a filler created from hyaluronic acid that can be used to fill out certain areas of the face.
- Vobella – Vobella is a popular lip filler that is non-invasive and provides a natural looking result.
- Restylane – Restylane is considered a “facelift without the surgery,” and can work on a variety of places on the face to reduce lines, wrinkles, and make the face appear fuller.
What Are Injectables For?
Injectables have a few different uses, depending on the injectable. Some of them are strictly fillers that are used for cosmetic purposes, such as filling out the the face and lip area, which will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Others can be used to relax facial muscles. Botox is even approved for certain medical issues, including excess sweating, gential sweating, migraines, and even helping the patient have better bladder control. If you are unsure as to which injectable product would be right for you, ask your doctor to recommend one based on what you would like to use it for.
How Long Do Injectables Last?
Each injectable has its own time table for how long it will last. Most injectables last a few months, with some lasting even longer – up to a year. For example, Restylane, which is a filler to assist with reducing fine lines and wrinkles, can last anywhere from six months to twelve months. This is longer than traditional fillers that utilize collagen for their success, which can last anywhere from three to six months.
Some products, such as the popular lip filler Vobella, has shown to retain results for up to one year, with touch ups needed only every few months.
What is Recovery Like After Treatment?
When considering using injectables, you may wonder what the recovery is like, and what to expect after the procedure. While some injectables have a longer recovery time, most of them require no downtime, and allow you to get back to your normal activities in just a few hours, often less. In the case of Botox and Dysport, it is important to remember not to touch the injection sites or lie down for a few hours after the injections in order to prevent the toxin from spreading into an affecting your facial muscles.
After receiving injectables, it is important to remember that side effects, such as slight bruising and swelling, are common, and will typically subside within a day or two. Itching and redness are also common at the injection sites following the injection, and do not last long.
Risks of Injectables
The risks of using injectable procedures are minimal. If aftercare instructions are followed properly, there is a very low chance of any side effects. However, the risks that are associated with these procedures include:
- Asymmetry
- Skin eruptions
- Skin rashes
- Lumps
- Skin damage
- Allergic reaction to filler
- Headache
- Muscle weakness
