What is Dysport?
Dysport is a treatment for wrinkles that is injected into the affected area. It uses the same neurotoxin as Botox, and it works in the same way as Botox works. However, after clinical trials and studies that have been done on Dysport, it has also been shown to produce results in a quicker time frame. In fact, Dysport has been shown to help wrinkles begin fading within only one or two days. Traditional Botox can take up to ten days for full results to be visible. This makes Dysport a great option if you have a special event coming up, or if you don’t want to wait around for the full results of traditional Botox. This reason alone can help many women and men decide to opt for Dysport instead of Botox.
What is Dysport Used For?
Dysport is mainly used as a way to control and reduce wrinkles on the face and neck. Dysport can be used in the cheeks, on the forehead, around the mouth, and on the chin. Dysport can also help to paralyze the sweat glands in the underarms and genital area, making it a great solution for patients suffering from excessive sweating. Dysport can also be used to treat muscle spasms in patients who are suffering from a variety of conditions.
Dysport, which works by blocking the area’s nerve impulses, can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face within only one or two days, making it fast acting and easy to use. Since Dysport is injected into deep areas of the skin, it works well to keep muscles relaxed, preventing wrinkles from coming back in the future, as well.
How Long Does Dysport Last?
While Dysport can offer results in only one or two days, the results typically last about four months – just like with Botox. When patients keep a routine schedule of Dysport injections, they can keep their results lasting much longer with touch-ups.
Recovery and What to Expect After Dysport Injections
Since Dysport uses the same neurotoxin as regular Botox, the side effects and recovery are much the same. Avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications for a week before and after receiving Dysport injections. It is vital to avoid lying down flat for at least four hours after Dysport injections to ensure that the neurotoxin does not spread to the muscles or other areas of the face or body. Make sure not to apply direct pressure or press down on the areas that have been injected with Dysport. Finally, be sure to avoid exposure to the sun for at least four hours after receiving Dysport treatments – and avoid tanning beds, as well.
During your recovery from Dysport, you may notice some redness, swelling, bruising, or itching around the injection sites. This is common, and should clear up within a few days. Also common side effects are muscle stiffness, which is temporary and clears up within a few hours, and slight pain.
Risks of Using Dysport
While side effects such as tenderness, swelling, redness, and slight bruising can be common with Dysport injections, if they last longer than a week you should contact your doctor.
Other risks associated with Dysport (although minimal), include:
- Muscle weakness
- Facial drooping
- Headache
- Nausea
- Back and neck aches
- Muscle pain
- Muscle stiffness
- Sore throat
- Infection of the injection site
- Flu-like symptoms
- Difficulty breathing
If you notice any of the milder effects above and they do not clear up after a few hours or days, contact your doctor. For more severe risks, such as flu-like symptoms, infection, severe headache, or difficulty breathing, contact your doctor immediately and seek medical attention
